Learn What Steps To Take To Have Your Piano Moved

by Elmer Riley

Moving a piano can be tricky business. It needs to be moved properly in order to ensure that it is not damaged during the move. If you need to move your piano in the near future, you need to hire a piano moving company to help you. Use the guide below for a few quick tips when getting a piano moved.

Hire a Moving Company with Experience

The first thing you need to do is hire a moving company that has experience moving pianos. They will already have the tools and knowledge that they need to ensure the piano is moved as safely as possible. It is important to let them know how large the piano is and the location of the piano so that they can determine how they are going to get it out of your home and onto their truck. If you live in an apartment on the third or fourth story, it may be difficult for them to take the piano down the stairs, and they will have to determine if there is another way to get the piano out.

Let Your Landlord Know What Day You Plan to Move

If you have a large piano that needs to be moved, it is important to make sure that the movers have the room that they need to move the piano with ease. Let your landlord know what day you plan to move the piano so that he or she can plan accordingly. They may choose to move furniture in the lobby out of the way. Also, they will be able to expect the alarm for the door to go off, if there is one, because of the door being propped open to bring the piano outside.

Do What You Can to Secure the Piano

Before the big day arrives, do what you can to keep the piano as safe as possible. Fill the inside of it with newspaper to try to cut down on the movement that takes place inside of the piano as it is moved. Tape the key cover and the lid of the piano down so that they do not come open during the move.

Once the piano has been moved, take the time to inspect it closely. It may be slightly off tune, but should still be in good working order once it's placed in your new home. If there are any issues, report it to the moving company right away.
